The 2025 FA Trophy Final - Aldershot Town v Spennymoor Town (Match Day Thread)
Re: The 2025 FA Trophy Final - Aldershot Town v Spennymoor Town (Match Day Thread)
A large amount of people coming to support us at Wembley are family and friends who will only rarely, if at all, attend the run of the mill league and cup games. Thats why people are ordering blocks or 8 or more....'I'll come and watch you if you ever get to Wembley."
It will be a great occasion anyway

You never know, maybe Justin Rose will come along to Wembley with some of his golfing buddies and during the post match celebrations put an offer inSilasgoldeen wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:17 amMoney pit though isn't it? And I think it'll only get worse. Maybe at some point some rich American will take a shine to the club's history and military links, etc, feels like a real trend atm.Dom Sterlings Left Leg wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 9:45 am If only someone could realise the potential of this great club which these ticket sales again prove.
Hopefully this can be a watershed moment for the BOD where the small time 'we are lucky to be in the National league' type mentality is binned for good.

I now have a quandary, I have been invited to a VE Day veterans event (no, I’m not one) on the same day as the final. It’s going to be a pretty special day with a lot of lads who aren’t going to be around much longer. What to do?

Wembley. We've waited forever and it may not happen again.

I was saying exactly this to a mate yesterday. The potential has always been there...yet the club runs on a shoestring.Dom Sterlings Left Leg wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 9:45 am If only someone could realise the potential of this great club which these ticket sales again prove.

Onwards & Upwards...Wembley will be a great fixture to end the season!

I would put VE Day first but I am glad that I don`t have to make your decision.
Whatever, good luck.

I would have to agree with Charles, the Vets event might tip it for me too. Easy to say in my position obviously , but the events surrounding VE80 might well be lot of lasts ...
You just need to ask yourself, which one would fulfill you more and which one would mean most to you.
Whatever you decide, there is no wrong.

VE Day can be celebrated every year (8th May), 80th anniversary this year and lots going on in London on the Thursday.. Shots getting to Wembley, once in a lifetime. (Sunday 11th May 2025). The British Government celebrations run from the 5th to the 8th May.Charles Dickens wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 12:12 pmI would put VE Day first but I am glad that I don`t have to make your decision.

As a veteran having joined up in Aldershot in 1976 I will be at Wembley having already experienced a VE event during the week.
It's your decision and only you will know if it's the right one.

Tell those lads to stay on the beer and you can catch up with them in the evening! Only kidding, that's a very tough call and not one I can advise on as I'm not from a service background. Which ever you eventually choose, I hope it's a great day for you.

It’s a pretty special event organised by a writer I used to do research for and I suspect it will be one of the last events where there is a large(ish) gathering of wartime veterans. Probably will be the last time I get to chat to the heroes of my childhood as well, they are slipping away so fast, so with that in mind I’ve decided Wembley can wait, there’s always next year.brian bloomfield wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 12:42 pmVE Day can be celebrated every year (8th May), 80th anniversary this year and lots going on in London on the Thursday.. @ Turnkey
Surely this isn't a gathering of actual WW2 veterans?
There are believed to be only around 100 men who served in WW2 still alive across all of the UK. Travelling from around the country for this event must be quite a challenge - bearing in mind that anyone who did serve in the armed forces during 1939-45 must now be a minimum of 98 years old.

It is. I don’t know where you got that number from, whilst it’s estimated there may be less than 100 actual DDay veterans left, across the services the RBL and Blesma estimate there are still 10-20000 left who saw some service. The last event I attended just before Xmas there was about 50 or so in attendance but I know at least 7 have passed in the last couple of months.James E wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:12 pm @ Turnkey
