As long as daddy is here, I'd expect our midfield maestro to still be here too, unfortunately.
It is strange that most years (when we have done poorly) so many people on here suggest keeping a lot of players. I don't get it.
Beyond the ones we already have signed, and fortunately they are the best of this bunch, I cant see why we would want any others, excluding the loanees...
The reason, Ian is that many of us think our main weakness is the deficiencies in team management.

That is certainly a part of our problem.

I'd keep Tommy & Theo and I really hope that the board can find the money to sign Kai.

With the new ladies team set-up it would be good to see Mrs Widds involved

We also have to put up with shoehorning the wage thief into the middle of the park.

It's a shame we couldn't have seen the below for the majority of the season, as I think its definitely competitive.

Dewhurst

Woodhouse Jenkins Harfield

Akpan Tetek Hargreaves R.Jones

Frost

Barrett Barham

With JVS Scott A.Jones Maja Ghandour Henry Widdrington Armitage Thomas etc in reserve.

I think if we had a full strength side we would have been nowhere near the bottom 4.
Sorry, but I completely disagree with that midfield - it's way too weak for the National League. They would just get bullied and overrun by most teams. And Theo is not the only weakness.

Akpan has shown promise and is worth another year. Tetek is very good technically but is made of glass. Hargreaves is like my friend's border collie - throw him the ball and he will chase it all day but we need much more from our central midfielders. Ryan Jones has improved through the season but also lacks the ability to withstand physical opponents.

I would like to see more of Maja but even if he turned out to be the physical presence in the middle of the park, we still need guile and leadership. Anthony Hartigan was instrumental in Barnet's success this season - that's the type of player we lack. But they cost money. Whoever is In charge next season that has to be the priority

My priority would be to look for and sign a defensive midfielder who can provide protection to the defence .I would not consider extending contracts on anymore until this player is secured. We have not been good this season and every penny is precious particularly as it appears spare cash is needed to refund investors plus the pitch of course !

Tetek would have to go in a pay as you play deal!
All depends on who the manager is I guess. I'd imagine a few contracts might be sorted out soon now we are safe, presuming the players want to stay.

To be fair, the caveat in my post was that it was hypothetical based on having fully fit players, we all know ow Tetek is made of Quavers. I accept your point about needing more physical strength in there though.

I think everyone can see the physical strength thing. Maja looked like he had some presence then got injured again and didn't really find his sea legs.

So much of it is this silly 3412 or whatever he thinks he's doing though. Means we have more centre backs than we need, but can't shield them, and more forwards than we need, but we can't supply them. So everyone gets the worst of all worlds.

I'm another Akpan believer. This system relies on wing backs and we're playing AJ and Tyler Frost in those roles, both supposed to be attacking and defensive players. Akpan can get up and down and ought to be good enough defensively to make it work. Olly Scott could probably do the same on the left if they still think Harfield has to be a centre back. But at the moment the inflexibility is just making everyone look awful. you adapt your system to the players you have, you don't just shoe-horn in the next best option and hope for the best. That's no way to run a football team.

In terms of retained and being brutal, if we have the ambition to be a football league club, I would retain:

Dewhurst
Woodhouse
Hargreaves
Barrett
Henry (understanding he will be rotated)
R.Jones
Harfield (if recovery works out)
Akpan (if recovery works out/back up)
Jenkins
Barham (rotation)

I’m on the fence about Olly Scott, Tyler frost (too inconsistent), Tetek.

The rest for me aren’t good enough to get us promoted so should be cut loose.

Sadly if TW is retained I see little change in the playing squad.

We need better wing backs, centre backs, centre mids and a prolific striker.

Why would he come to us, no way we can pay what Eastleigh do?

Some of the young players who have spent most of the season out on loan need to be given a chance and retained.

Surely we could pay for his services but just don’t re-sign as many ?Quality v Quantity

Been a big fan of his for a few years now, and would love him to come to us, but sadly, as others have said, it seems very doubtful.
